The Purpose Question: Why Am I Here?

Updated: Nov 29

Many of us have asked this question at some point. It is possible to seek all the right things in all the wrong places, with nothing to show for the time, energy, and commitment we have given. Have you ever been there? You're not alone.

Here are a few principles from my faith that encouraged me on this journey. I hope they benefit you as well.

A. Understanding Identity in Christ

  • Scripture: “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” (Ephesians 2:10)

  • Application: I encourage reflection on God’s unique design for each person. Faith provides the foundation for understanding one’s intrinsic worth and purpose.

  • Practice: Consider journaling prompts focused on spiritual gifts and life experiences that shape your identity.

B. Trusting God’s Guidance

  • Scripture: “Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.” (Proverbs 16:3)

  • Application: I encourage you to seek God’s wisdom through prayer, Scripture study, and reflection.

  • Practice: Develop a habit of surrendering plans to God and trusting His timing.

As a leadership trainer, coach, and mentor, I've learned that asking can sometimes be more empowering than telling. In a world filled with great teachers and influencers, the answers we seek must be met with the right questions.

  • Examples:

    • What has God placed on your heart?

    • What dreams have you been afraid to pursue?

    • How do your passions align with God’s purpose for your life?

The list goes on, but I hope that you get the main idea. Could it be possible that you've been looking around for what can only be found within?
